HIGH PROFILE INVESTORS JOIN EVEN IN SHOWING AN APPETITE FOR COOKING APP

The extraordinary growth of an app designed to help home cooks organise, share and shop their recipes has attracted some of America’s leading investors, as app ReciMe takes home cooking to new heights.

Originating in Australia in late 2022 and founded by a trio of passionate home-cooks, the company has recently relocated to New York City and captured the attention of over 500,000 home cooks across America. ReciMe’s most popular feature is its smart importing tool, which enables its users to aggregate all their recipes in one platform within seconds – whether those recipes came from an Instagram video, recipe blog or grandma’s recipe box. To date, over 100,000 unique recipes have been imported to ReciMe.

Co-founder Christine Nguyen attributes much of the company’s success to the app’s simplicity. “When we first released ReciMe, we built too many things, and none of them worked well” says Nguyen. “As soon as we realised that our smart importer was our most loved feature, we scrapped everything and re-built our entire app just to drive that one core action.”

The move has paid off – over the last six months, user retention has tripled, and ReciMe has since introduced a subscription model with an impressive 20x increase in subscribers and revenue.

The investment round was led by New Zealand-based VC Even Capital alongside some of the biggest names in consumer tech. Marissa Mayer (ex-CEO of Yahoo and the 20th employee at Google) is widely known for designing Google’s iconic home page. Deb Liu (CEO of Ancestry.com) led the team that pitched, built and scaled Facebook Marketplace. Karl von Randow is the founder of Letterboxd, now the fastest-growing community of film-lovers and Paul Greenberg, well known Australian e-commerce pioneer and investor.
